DIBRUGARH: A week-long programme as part of the International Women's Day celebration, organized by Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), got underway here with the observance of International Women's Day on Monday with the theme 'Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world'.

Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Roshni Aparanji Korati graced the occasion as chief guest while Dr Sanjukta Parashar, currently posted in National Investigative Agency (NIA), and Dr. Sriparna B. Baruah, Head, Centre for Industrial Extension, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati were guests of honour in the programme organized for the spouses of BCPL employees at BCPL Township, Barbaruah.

The event was also graced by Reep Hazarika, Managing Director, BCPL, Pruthiviraj Das Director (Finance), RK Singh, Chief Operating Officer, BCPL, and Asit Das, General Manager (HR).

Reep Hazarika, Managing Director (BCPL), while addressing the gathering, spoke on the enormous contribution of women in the time of the COVID pandemic and how women employees in BCPL had contributed equally with the male colleagues. Asit Das, General Manager (HR), also emphasized the role and responsibilities of women. He also spoke about how the society must shed their stereotypical notions attached with women and how women could choose to challenge.

To mark the occasion, awareness programme on sexual harassment for the peripheral and support female staff and other contract workers was organized. In the event, a special issue of e-newsletter on women's day was published along with release of a video showcasing experiences of BCPL women employees.

In addition to this, all the women employees of BCPL donated a customized wheelchair to Sulakshana Kaushik, a resident of Dibrugarh and a teacher by profession. She is suffering from various ailments and is partly paralyzed. As a goodwill gesture, BCPL women employees took the initiative and collaborated with Uddhab Bharali, Padma Shri awardee, for a customized wheelchair.

The event turned out to be a very rich and fulfilling experience for the women employees as it provided a platform for interaction as well as sharing of success stories and challenges with the inmates of Prerona Pratibandhi Dibrugarh.
