"Begin preparations to tackle flood challenge", Assam Governor tells BTC administration

Guwahati: Assam Governor Professor Jagadish Mukhi Thursday visited Udalguri district of Assam on May 28 and urged the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration to be prepared to tackle the impending challenge of floods in the region.

"In view of the possibility of seasonal floods looming large on the BTAD areas, I asked administration to be fully prepared with its relief and rescue measures and reach out to the people whenever required", Mukhi said.

In Udalguri, Professor Mukhi chaired two meetings at the Conference Hall of DC office, Udalguri today. One meeting with the Administrator of BTC, IGP, BTAD, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and security agencies while the other one with the Heads of the different Departments.

According to official sources, the Governor directed all the concerned functionaries to make the BTC administration "pro-people" and urged the Administrator to set public grievance boxes with lock and key facility in the BTC Secretariat, all DC offices, SP offices, SDO offices, Circle offices and all the BDO Offices.

Since zero-tolerance to corruption has all along been the principle of the government, the administrative machinery needs to work resolutely to weed out corruption from all levels and allow people to enjoy the fruits of governance, Mukhi said.

Mukhi, it may be recalled, took charge of the administration in the BTC on April 27 after cancellation of the election due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Governor's Rule in the region, meanwhile, has been opposed by the erstwhile ruling party's leaders. Additionally, Mukhi's visit to the region in recent times has been severely criticized and he has been accused of breaking lockdown protocol, which prohibits the movement of people aged over 65, except for activities considered "essential."
