Guwahati: The prime accused in the double murder case in Guwahati's Beltola, Akash Choudhury (caretaker) has claimed that the city police had tortured him to confess the crime.

The accused was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) for a hearing.

Speaking to media in this regard, on Monday, he said,'' I swear on my child. I haven't killed them. The police had tortured me to confess the crime. They tortured me to such extent that I was unable to walk''.

The city police on October 29 had claimed that prime accused Choudhury confessed his crime in police custody.

Joint Commissioner of Police, P.S. Mahanta commenting on the development in the case asserted that the investigation in the double murder case which made the headlines in the city has been completed. He also said that they (police) have the enough evidence against Choudhury.

'' In the police custody, the accused has confessed his crime and we (police) have enough evidence against him. However, presently, it will be difficult for us to share any details regarding the motive of murder," he said.

According to the Joint Commissioner, the accused used a 'stone-like substance' as a weapon to kill the elderly couple in Beltola.

The city police have also claimed that the accused Choudhury was single-handedly responsible for the murder.

Notably, on November 8, one of the four persons which happened to be Akash Choudhury was arrested by the polce.

Besides, two other suspects Satyendra Singh and Paresh Choudhury had been detained for interrogation. Singh was present at the victims' residence on Monday night.

The deceased elderly couple identified as Noni Gopal Baruah (87) and Mina Baruah (76) were residents of Guwahati's Chandan Nagar area, Survey in Beltola.

At that time, the sources said that the thieves have entered the house through a broken window and so many things were looted. The bodies were found in the bed and a sharp weapon was reportedly used to kill them.

When the caretaker went to the house to serve the elderly couple breakfast, found the dead bodies of the duo.

The elderly couple is survived by two daughters who use to live outside the state.

Speaking to the media one of the daughters had said, "Culprits should get punishment. Today, my parents were murdered. Tomorrow, others may be victims".
