Eviction drives have been carried out by NFR at several locations over the last five months, including the North Lakhimpur railway station and the Lumding railway junction.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) carried out an eviction drive on Saturday to clear up unwanted encroachments on railway land between Kamakhya and Guwahati railway stations. In a three-hour operation, 29 illegal constructions were demolished.

"The NFR has been implementing a comprehensive approach to tackle encroachment issues, which includes awareness campaigns, regular surveillance patrols, and strict enforcement actions," stated Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, chief public relations officer for the NFR.

"The eviction drive is part of the NFR's broad strategy to reclaim railway land and maintain the safety and cleanliness of railway infrastructure across its jurisdiction." "We recognize that community involvement is essential to preserving the integrity of railway infrastructure,  so we encourage passengers and local stakeholders to extend their

cooperation in reporting any unauthorized occupation of railway property," Sharma continued.

“Eviction of encroachers from railway land is a continuous process we conduct. In the past five months, we have conducted eviction drives at Lumding railway junction, north Lakhimpur railway station and a few other locations, said Nilanjan Deb, NFR’s public relation officer.

“We came across repeated offenders who encroach on the railway’s land within a few months after the eviction, and because of that we are bound to conduct eviction drives after every 6 to 8 months. These encroachers even destroy the railway fences. “ Deb added.

Another senior NFR official claims that trash materials gathered by rag pickers are dumped on the encroached areas. These fields are also used by a number of unlicensed sellers. Similar eviction efforts have previously been carried out by NFR, but unlawful encroachers kept returning to the same locations.
