Bharat Bandh hits normal life across Assam

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Bharat Bandh called by the farmers' unions and supported by opposition parties in protest against the three farm laws enacted in the monsoon session of the Parliament was peaceful in Biswanath district on Tuesday.

All business establishments, shops, banks, post offices, government offices, schools and colleges remained closed. Plying of vehicles on the NH-15 and on the other roads was totally stopped. The supporters of the Bandh burnt effigies of Central Government leaders on the road at several places in the district. They also shouted slogans against the government and the three farm laws. The Bandh was total in others parts of the district, including Chatiya, Borgang, Behali, Halem, Gohpur and Kalabari.

GOLAGHAT: The Bharat Bandh called by several farmers' organizations on Tuesday protesting against the 'anti-farmer' bills which were 'forcibly' enforced by the BJP government, evoked total response. During the Bandh, almost all educational institutions and commercials establishments remained closed. Commercial vehicles, including buses and trucks, remained off the road. Markets and other business establishments remained closed. The district administration had made adequate security arrangements. There was no report of any kind of violence during the Bandh in Golaghat.

SARUPATHAR: The impact of the Bharat Bandh was total in Sarupathar under Dhansiri subdivision in Golaghat district. All shops and business establishments in Sarupathar town were closed spontaneously in support of the farmers' call for a peaceful Bharat Bandh on Tuesday. The streets of Sarupathar wore a deserted look as all public transport remained off the road. Banks and schools too completely closed in Sarupathar. People of Sarupathar have also expressed anger about the fact that the farmers are not getting the right price for their produce.
