LAKHIMPUR: In view of the ensuing assembly election to be held in 2021, the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) have continued their activities in order to strengthen the organizational base of the political party in Dhakuakhana.

As a part of such activities, while taking part in a meeting at Luitporiya High School under Kherkota Gaon Panchayat of Dhakuakhana LAC, the booth committee activists of the organization were allegedly attacked by a gang of 10 to 15 people with sharp weapons.

The gang also vandalized the chairs and tables and other furniture of the school. During the attack, Yuva Morcha activists named Bijesh Doley, Ranoj Doley, Bibek Doley, Riten Morang and Pabitra Doley sustained injuries on their hands, legs and head.

In connection with the incident, Hemanta Gogoi, the president of Dhakuakhana District Committee of BJYM, lodged an FIR at Dhakuakhana Police Station against seven people named Raj Kumar Doley, Amir Doley, Bijes Pegu, Pintu Patir, CRP Pegu, Amisaf Doley of Pegu Bogoriguri village and Goutam Morang of Bogoriguri village.

The Dhakuakhana district unit of BJYM vehemently condemned the attack on the activists of the organization. President Hemanta Gogoi stated that the organization would serve a befitting reply to such anti-social elements with democratic process. He demanded the police to arrest the attackers immediately and to ensure legal punishment to them. In the meantime, police have launched investigation regarding the case.
