KOKRAJHAR: On the eve of celebration of the 72nd Republic Day of India, neighbouring country Bhutan hoped that the ties and mutual understanding between Bhutan and India would become stronger.

In a message, the Secretary General of Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA), UgenRabten said, "On the happy and historic occasion of India's 72nd Republic Day, the BIFA offers its sincere felicitation to the people of India." He hoped that the people of India would continue to enjoy greater peace, progress and prosperity and the exceptional bonds of friendship between Bhutan and India would continue to grow ever stronger.

BIFA has been playing a significant role in strengthening mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and people- to-people contact from across the border between the two countries. The Government of Bhutan extended generous help to the people of India, especially in Datgari and Hatisar along Bhutan border, during national lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. They supplied various food items and even sent Indian currency for exchange when people of the border areas faced currency crisis due to the lockdown. Besides, they dredged the locked water canals in Indian side for smooth flow of water and helped save the local people from flash floods.
