Bicycles, school uniform distributed among tea tribes in Biswanath district

Distribution of bicycles and school uniforms among line watchmen and school students of tea gardens respectively was ceremonially flagged-off on Friday in Biswanath district by Biswanath MLA Promod Borthakur

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Distribution of bicycles and school uniforms among line watchmen and school students of tea gardens respectively was ceremonially flagged-off on Friday in Biswanath district by Biswanath MLA Promod Borthakur and Behali MLA Ranjit Dutta in the presence of Diganta Ghatowar, president of Biswanath Sub-Divisional Tea Tribes Welfare Board, and Dipan Barman, Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar).

The programme was organized by Biswanath Sub-Divisional Welfare Board, in association with Tea Tribes Welfare Board. Out of 167 bicycles to be distributed among line watchmen, 20 were handed over in the programme. The rest will be distributed at tea garden level. In addition, selected 30 students were also handed over school uniforms by the two MLAs. In total, 5,268 students from 42 tea garden schools will be handed over school uniforms.

Speaking on the occasion, Ranjit Dutta said that since the new government came to power, it has been relentlessly working for the benefit of the tea tribe. Various welfare schemes for the tea tribe community have been launched which are targeted at changing the socio-economic condition of the community. He mentioned about the financial assistance scheme for the tea tribe community in the event of a health crisis and urged them to avail it whenever necessary. He also said that in future the government would try to provide the line watchmen with Scooters in place of bicycles.

Promod Borthakur said that the new government was very focussed in implementation of the welfare schemes for the tea tribe community. He said the government's motto is last-mile-delivery and hence urged leaders of the tea tribe community to generate awareness among its members regarding various welfare schemes so that everyone can avail those. Dipan Barman highlighted various scholarship schemes for students from the tea tribe community. He said there were pre-matriculation, post-matriculation, higher education and technical education related scholarship schemes for students from the tea tribe community and the students could avail them online.
