HAFLONG: Celebrating the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, one of the most revered freedom fighters, the chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa unveiled the bronze statue of Netaji at Haflong in presence of a huge gathering on Monday.

CEM Debolal Gorlosa graced the occasion as the chief guest while NCHAC chairperson RanuLangthasa, Executive Members Ratan Jarambusa, Samuel Changsan, Nojit Kemprai, Bijit Langthasa, MAC and chairman of Haflong Municipal Board, Monjit Naiding, MAC Liton Chakraborty, MAC Iswari Prasad Jaishi, PS(N) M Kemprai, SP Mayenk Kumar attended as the guests of honour.

The day's programme started with the lighting of the lamp followed by the unveiling of the statue, hoisting of the flag, and declaration of the birth time of Netaji. Speaking on the occasion all the speakers dwelt a brief life sketch and contribution of Netaji in the freedom fight and appealed to all to follow the footprints of such leaders with respect who have done such sacrifices for our nation.

CEM Gorlosa in his speech highlighted how the present governments under the leadership of Modi and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma have been trying to give due respect to our leaders who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He appealed to all to respect leaders.

DEMOW: Birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated in Demow Kali Mandir premises on Monday. As per the schedule, the programme started with a cleanliness drive. The national flag was hoisted by Dhiren Kar, senior citizen of the area.

After that the flag of All Assam Bengali Youth Students' Federation (AABYSF), Demow Regional Committee was hoisted by Appu Dey, president of All Assam Bengali Youth Students' Federation (AABYSF), Demow Regional Committee. The smiti tarpan was offered by Nirju Moni Gogoi, Ward Commissioner of 2 No ward. The ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was lit by Rabindra Ghosh, secretary of All Assam Bengali Youth Students' Federation (AABYSF), Sivasagar District Committee.

A colourful cultural procession was flagged off by Ratan Dey, Assistant Teacher in Athabari Higher Secondary School. A drawing competition was organized which was inaugurated by Ananta Borah, teacher in Lambudar Borgohain Sankardev Sishu Bidya Niketan School.

HOWRAGHAT: The birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose was observed with patriotic activities at Howraghat town. It was organized by a Howraghat based mother Non-Government Organization (NGO) Netaji Welfare Society (NWS).

The programme headed by NWS secretary Gautom Shutradhor was started by hoisting the national flag. The national flag was officially unfurled by Monjit Terang, circle Inspector and officer in-charge of Howraghat police station. Subsequently, the inaugural function of garlanding Netaji's Statue was initiated by Bidya Teron, chairman of Howraghat Municipal Board.

Sandalwood saplings were planted around the NWS office premises and the plantation programme was inaugurated by Bhabesh Rajbongshi, retired Headmaster of Howraghat Town Girls' High School.

Besides, an ambulance service was also launched officially in the name "Netaji Ambulance Service" and the service was inaugurated by qualified renowned senior Dr Nigamananda Maithar. Various events like art and quiz competitions were also organized among the students and the students who performed well in the competition were also given prizes. In Diphu too, rich floral tributes were paid to a statue of Netaji situated at Circuit House by the officials of the district administrations.
