LAKHIMPUR: Bishnu Rabha Divas, celebrating the death anniversary of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha was observed on Monday across Lakhimpur district by various organizations and academic, socio-cultural institutions along with the rest of the State. The event was observed in a befitting manner at Lakhimpur Commerce College marking the 53rd death anniversary of the legendary cultural and literary icon whose great offerings have made a remarkable impact on the culture as well as the literature and intellectual domain of the State of Assam. The celebration began with lighting the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Bishnu Prasad Rabha by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college.

The objective of the meeting was explained by Achyut Kumar Gogoi, Assistant Professor in Assamese. Jagat Chandra Dutta, Head Assistant of the college delivered a lecture on the life and works of Bishnu Rabha in the meeting. Dr. Sangeeta Borthakur Tamuly, HoD of Economics recited a poem on Bishnu Rabha at the function. Tilok Chandra Deka, HoD, Assamese and Himadree Deka, office assistant also presented Rabha Sangeet. Different students also performed songs and poetry recitation of the Kalaguru. The entire Rabha Divas function of the college was anchored by Dr. Biva Dutta of Assamese department.

In Dhakuakhana subdivision, Dhakuakhana regional unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and Pachim Dhakuakhana Sakha Xahitya Xabha observed the Bishnu Rabha Divas at Pachim Dhakuakhana High School auditorium. The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of Xahitya Xabha flag by Pachim Dhakuakhana Sakha Xahitya Xabha president Mihir Chetia. Dhakuakhana AASU general secretary Bedanta Hundique and headmaster of the school conducted the smriti tarpan programme garlanding the portrait of Bishnu Prashad Rabha. It was followed by a series of competitions on drawing, Bishnu Rabha poem recitation, Bishnu Rabha Sangeet and speech on his life, work and ideology among the students. The competitions commenced under the chairmanship of Axam Xahitya Xabha lifelong member Pramod Dutta and teacher Deepsikha Khound.

JAMUGURIHAT: Alok; a leading socio-cultural organisation of the greater Nagsankar area here observed the special day with a day-long programme. The day-long programme held at Nagsankar Natya Mancha was began with hoisting of the flag followed by inaugural session of Rabha song competition by Hitesh Barua, ZPC member. Putul Bora lit up the ceremonial lamps wherein nearly 70 students from Sootea, Biswanath and Jamugurihat participated. Bornali Rajbanshi and Gitashree Ojha Hazarika graced competition as judges. The prize distribution ceremony was held with Paresh Saikia in the chair. Parmeshwar Saikia briefed the objectives which was conducted by Raktim Neog. The open session was attended by Baneswar Bora, Ghana Orang, Narayan Hazarika, Jiten Hazarika, Rajdeep Neog besides others.

Sorbhog: The two benevolent NGOs named 'The Earth Ranger' and 'Oghaitong' organized day-time events to observe the death anniversary of great revolutionary artist and cultural stalwart of Assam on Rabha Divas on Monday under the shadow of Gorokhiya Gokhai campus in Sorbhog. The event commenced with lighting of lamp and floral tribute to the "Kalaguru" by the principal of Barnagar College and renowned educationist Biren Kumar Chakravorty in presence of other dignitaries and members of general public. With the next agenda and as a kind gesture to the Mother Nature, distribution and plantation of saplings also marked the event. In addition to these agendas, live painting competition and cultural performances added to the list of organized events. The whole programme was successfully concluded enlightening general public and showing the example of right 'doers' by both the NGOs.

Boko: Kamrup District Rabha Students' Union observed 53rd Bishnu Rabha Diwas at Hahim in Boko on Monday. The day long programme has been organized with the support of Hahim Regional ARSU Committee. Starting the programme with ARSU and other sister organisations flags hosting, floral tributes were paid to the Rabha martyrs and to the portrait of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Later ARSU organized a painting competition and felicitated first division scored HSLC passed students. Later an open session on Bishnu Prasad Rabha life biography was organized. The open session was presided over by Nomal Rabha. Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Councillor Tankeswar Rabha took part as a chief guest. On the other hand, ARSU secretary Pradip Rabha, ARSU Kamrup District President Ajit Rabha, other ARSU leaders took part in the meeting.

DEMOW: The Swarna Bidyapith School which is situated in Demow Dehajan observed Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Divas in the school premises on Monday. On the occasion the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha was lit by Mridul Buragohain, a local media person. After that Jayananda Dehingia, founder of the school inaugurated the photo exhibition drawn by the students. Ajay Kumar Gogoi, Professor in Moran Women College inaugurated the wall magazine named 'Swarna Jyoti'. The drawing, song and dance competitions were organized among the students in the school on Monday. On the otherhand under the patronage of All Assam Unnayan Parishad Sivasagar District Committee in association with Palengi Anchalik Committee and the people of Palengi the Kendriya Rabha Divas was observed in Palengi High School Playground near Demow on Monday. Different programmes were organized on the occasion.
