BISWANATH CHARIALI: With the objective of improving road safety across the district as well as making rides smoother for passengers, Biswanath district administration has issued instructions to National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to speed up the four-laning works in the district.

Chairing the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting here on Friday, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Biswanath, Liza Talukdar asked representatives of NHIDCL to complete all leftover patches of four lane construction in Jamuguri-Biswanath Chariali section by the first week of October. She said that though work on this section had been more or less completed, the leftover patches were giving discomfort to commuters and passengers and, hence, 'priority' must be accorded by NHIDCL to complete it within the next two months. She also asked NHIDCL to put proper signage across the stretch on completion of work to enhance road safety. ADC Talukdar expressed her displeasure over the slow pace of progress in the Biswanath Chariali-Gohpur portion. The NHIDCL was instructed to sort out all contractor-related issues at the earliest so that the work on that stretch could be expedited.

Further, Talukdar directed the District Transport Officer (DTO), Umesh Chandra Sarma to complete all formalities with regard to formation of Crash Investigation Teams (CITs) in the district by August 10. The CITs would be entrusted the task of analyzing the reasons behind fatal crashes in the district so that follow-up measures could be undertaken to prevent further accidents at those spots and locations.

Talukdar also took stock of the progress of all road construction and development related works in Biswanath Chariali town in the meeting. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to complete all paver block laying work within the next 15 days.
