BISWANATH CHARIALI: Biswanath district administration paid rich tribute to Bir Lachit Barphukan on Thursday on the occasion of his 400th birth anniversary.

A full-sized statue of Mahabir Lachit Barphukan was unveiled by Munindra Nath Ngatey, Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, in the presence of Navin Singh, Superintendent of Police, Pradip Sutradhar, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Biswanath, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, the heads and staffs of various departments and public. The programme was conducted by Prashanta Mahanta, a social worker.

Showcasing snippets from the Battle of Saraighat and Assam's rich variety and unity in diversity, the district administration also took out a cultural rally from Kachari Maidan, Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, which included all the communities of the society that constitutes the fabric of Greater Assam. The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey. The day was observed in the educational institutions in the district with a four-day long programme. Quiz, speech, drawing and other competitions were organized among the students.
