BISWANATH CHARIALI: Nomination papers of a total of 44 candidates from two municipalities, namely Biswanath Chariali and Chatia, have been found valid under Biswanath subdivision. This was disclosed by Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra at a press conference held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, Biswanath.

He said a total of 28 candidates had filed nomination papers for 12 wards in Biswanath Chariali Municipal Board and a total of 16 candidates for 10 wards in Chatia Municipal Board. The Deputy Commissioner informed that elections will be held in all the 12 wards in Biswanath Chariali Municipal Board as multiple candidates filed nominations while four candidates have been elected unopposed in four wards in Chatia Municipal Board. Addressing a press conference in the presence of Tripurendra Patar, who was appointed as election observer for Biswanath district in the municipal elections, the Deputy Commissioner said that this time the municipal elections would be held through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and a total of 14,909 voters would cast their votes in 16 polling stations in Biswanath Chariali Municipal Board. Among these, 7,217 are male and 7,692 are female voters.

On the other hand, a total of 9,774 voters will cast their votes in a total of 10 wards for Chatia Municipal Board in 10 polling stations. Of these, 4,812 are male and 4,962 are female voters. Election will be held for the first time at Chatia.

Meanwhile, various election cells have already been activated in the Deputy Commissioner's office for the smooth conduct of the municipal election and training arrangements have also been made for the officer staff to be engaged in the election process. The Superintendent of Police, Biswanath was directed to collect licensed fire-arms within the municipal area for a free and fair election. 'Dry Day' will also be declared on the day of elections and counting of votes, he added.

The press conference was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Kulen Sharma and Liza Talukdar, SDO (Civil-Sadar) Biswajit Saikia, Election Officer Debashish Goswami, Naduar Revenue Circle Officer Dr Akashdeep Kakati, Assistant Commissioners Ananya Lahkar and Kankana Saikia and others.
