Biswanath: Assam Minister for Minority Development and MLA from Bihali constituency, Ranjit Dutta inaugurated the newly constructed Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus stand at Borgang under Bihali constituency in Biswanath district on Sunday.

The Bargang bus stand that falls under the the Bihali assembly constituency of Biswanath district, was in a very bad state for almost two decades. The bus stand has been constructed by ASTC and is now officially open for public.

"This bus stand was a long pending issue. Finally because of the efforts of ASTC under the leadership of Ashok Bhattarai, this bus stand got fixed. The stand would be also used as a commercial hub where youths can set up shops or stalls. This would also help address the issue of unemployment," Minister Dutta said after inaugurating the bus stand.

The minister hoped that the bus stand and operation of buses as city buses would ease the travel problems faces mostly by college going boys and girls.

"Three buses would be operating from this stand. These would be air conditioned buses that would operate between Biswanath and Tezpur, Guwahati and Lakhimpur," Chairman, ASTC, Ashok Bhattarai, who was also present at the inaugural ceremony said.

The bus stand has been constructed at a cost of about Rs 70 lakh.

"Biswanath already has an electric vehicle charging station, soon more electric buses would be operating from here," Bhattarai said

The electric charging station was inaugurated by MP Pallab Lochan Das on January 25. Bhattarai and Biswanath MLA Promod Borthakur were present on the occasion. The charging station has a capacity to charge a vehicle for two hours that would ensure the buses run for at least 120 kilometre.
