BISWANATH CHARIALI: Along with the entire state, Biswanath Police also celebrated 71st Assam Police Day in the district on Friday. The day's programme kick-started with Superintendent of Police Leena Doley unfurling the Police Flag at district police headquarters in the presence of Kulendra Nath Deka, Additional SP, parade contingents and office staff. It was followed by a pledge taking ceremony by all the police officers and staff. The Biswanath Police chose the occasion of Police Day to remember its martyrs and retired police officers who had rendered selfless and invaluable service to Assam Police in the past. SP Doley, along with other senior police officers, visited the residence of Martyr Naranari Gogoi at Madhupur area of Biswanath Chariali, who had laid down his life in 1991 fighting insurgents. Doley interacted with the family members of Gogoi and conveyed the message that Assam Police will always feel proud of his sacrifice on the line of duty. Later, the SP also visited the residences of four retired police officers and felicitated them.

In the evening, a police-public meeting was arranged at the SP's Office, where the Doley interacted with the leading and prominent citizens of the district and discussed various issues with them relating to the Biswanath district. On the occasion of Police Day, all the police stations and outposts were illuminated by lighting earthen lamps.
