LAKHIMPUR: “State BJP took a destructive decision for Assam and the Assamese people favouring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in a meeting held in Chief Minister’s constituency some days back. AGP is the partner of this party in the State Government. So, the vote cast for BJP and AGP in Rural poll will go in support of the controversial Bill,” said Ripun Borah, the president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee in Lakhimpur.
Taking part in a election campaign meeting held at Panigaon organized by Telahi Block Congress Committee on Friday, the MP of the Rajya Sabha alleged, “Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who shouted the slogan of securing Jati, Mati and Bheti, is now lying the red carpet favouring the bill to the Hindu foreigners of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan to Assam. The AGP is playing double standard regarding the issue. This party announces that it will withdraw the support from the BJP led State government if the Bill is passed. Thus both the parties have betrayed the people of Assam with falsehood and betrayal. I challenge AGP president Atul Borah to quit.”
He went on adding that BJP as well as AGP with its double standard, by supporting the Bill had extremely ridiculed the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs and violated the Assam Accord which was claimed to be signed under the auspices of then Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
