BJP gets four out of seven Cachar seats; 'Grand Alliance' bags three

Counting of votes was completed in Cachar district peacefully for the seven Assembly constituency seats; out of which, four were won by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), two by Congress and one by AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front).

SILCHAR: Counting of votes was completed in Cachar district peacefully for the seven Assembly constituency seats; out of which, four were won by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), two by Congress and one by AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front).

BJP candidate Dipayan Chakrabarty won the Silchar Constituency by defeating Tamal Kanti Banik (Indian National Congress or INC). Dipayan Chakrabarty secured 98,558 votes while Tamal Kanti Banik polled 60,980 votes. According to the final figures, of the 1,74,621 total votes cast in the Constituency, altogether 1,379 went to NOTA (None Of The Above).

In Katigorah Constituency, INC candidate Khalil Uddin Mazumder defeated BJP candidate Gautom Roy by a margin of 6,939 votes. Mazumder polled 83,268 votes while Roy got 76,329 votes. The total number of votes casted in the Constituency was 1,88,677 and 1,112 went to NOTA.

At Dholai Constituency, BJP candidate Parimal Sukhlabaidya swept the election by a margin of 20,392 votes. Polling 82,568 votes, Sukhlabaidya defeated Kamakhya Prasad Mala, who polled 62,176 votes. Of the 1,48,490 valid votes cast in the Constituency, as many as 1,561 went to NOTA.

Mihir Kanti Shome (BJP) won from Udharbond Constituency by defeating his arch rival Ajit Singh. Shome polled 61,745 votes whereas Singh (INC) got 59,060 votes. Of the 1,28,947 valid votes cast in the Constituency, as many as 1,494 went to NOTA.

In Sonai LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituecny), Karim Uddin Barbhuiya (AIUDF) defeated Aminul Haque Laskar (BJP) by a margin of 19,654 votes. Barbhuiya polled 71,937 votes while Laskar got 52283 votes. Independent candidate, Ashish Halder bagged 14500 votes. Of the 1,46,103 valid votes cast in the Constituency, a total of 1,231 went to NOTA.

Kaushik Rai (BJP) won the Lakhipur Constituency. He polled 55,341 votes. His nearest rival Mukesh Pandey (INC) bagged 42,641 votes. Of the 1,22,510 valid votes cast in the Constituency, as many as 1,536 went to NOTA.

INC candidate Misbahul Islam Laskar won the Borkhola Constituency. He polled 64,433 votes while his nearest rival Amalendu Das (BJP) bagged 57,402 votes. Of the 1,23,349 valid votes cast in the Constituency, a total of 1,105 went to NOTA.

Polling went off smoothly with tight security thrown in and around the NATRIP counting centre. Cachar SP (Superintendent of Police) earlier mentioned that a three-tier security arrangement was provide at the counting centre with the Central Reserve Force guarding the inner one. Counting started with the counting of postal ballots at 8 am sharp.

The administration clamped Section 144 to prevent the gathering of five or more persons; and also banned victory procession in the entire district due to the COVID-pandemic situation. This was stated in a press release issued from the Silchar DDIPR office.
