BJP Leader Detained in Nagaon for Alleged Smuggling of Fake Notes

NAGAON: Late on Friday night, Assam police detained a person in Nagaon, who was reportedly a BJP leader, for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

A raid was performed in Rupohihat, where the arrested person, identified as Amir Hussain, was discovered.During a search of Hussain's home prior to the arrest, the police had also uncovered a printing device used to print the fake currency notes.

He is still being questioned in order to identify any potential additional links or networks connected to the operation producing counterfeit money.

Locals expressed concern at the arrest of a BJP politician in connection with FICN smuggling and stressed the importance of conducting a thorough inquiry.

In Hojai's Doboka in Assam earlier on Friday night, three people were detained by a Nagaon Police team with a fake gold Jesus Christ statue.

The operation was related to a recent warning from the Assam Police regarding a fake gold scam operating throughout the state.

According to sources, the operation was carried out in Doboka, Assam, in the Namdoboka Pathar neighbourhood in response to a particular input. In order to defraud people worth thousands of rupees, a group of persons supposedly owned the "golden" Jesus Christ.

The fake gold statue of Jesus Christ was discovered after the police apprehended three people during the operation. The statue weighed somewhere between 1.7 kg and 1.8 kg.

Zubair Hussain, Iqbal Hussain, and Aslam Talukdar were the names of the people that were taken into custody. In relation to the seizure, an investigation has been opened.

It should be noted that the killing of Assam Police SI Junmoni Rabha is purportedly the result of a bogus gold scheme with connections to the police.

There appears to be little progress in the matter while the CID investigation is still being conducted and while CBI investigative proceedings are ongoing.

Some have even claimed that senior police officers were responsible for the murder and that the current campaign against fake gold and the FICN is a cover-up meant to distract people from Junmoni Rabha's passing.

On January 14, the Nagaon Police detained three individuals from the Horagaon neighbourhood of the district for their alleged participation in dealing with fake Indian currency notes.

The three suspects were captured at Horagaon by a team from the Kampur Police Station, according to sources, along with 12 fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a denomination of Rs 500 apiece. Additionally, they seized one package of A4-sized paper and a FICN printing device from them.
