DIGBOI: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the decisive stand on Friday evening to consider the suitability of my candidature to represent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ensuing assembly election from the Digboi seat," said Suren Phukan, the incumbent BJP MLA after getting the party ticket on Friday.

Phukan was accorded a warm welcome by party workers and leaders on Saturday afternoon. Talking to media persons at the MP office, Digboi, Phukan said that had MP Rameswar Teli not given the party high command report of his performance and rapport with the public, he would have probably been denied of the opportunity of representing his people again in the election.

The biggest hurdle that Phukan might face in the political battle in next few days is from the dissident group which is affiliated to another faction of the BJP camp. Arunjyoti Moran, a student leader of the Moran body, was expecting a party ticket. In case Arunjyoti Moran decides to contest as independent candidate and Gautam Dhanowar is allotted Congress ticket, it will prove to be an interesting poll battle for the Digboi seat. However, supporters of Suren Phukan are exhibiting confidence of winning the poll battle.
