BJP to Announce Candidate for Rajya Sabha Polls on March 21; AIUDF to Support Congress

GUWAHATI: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has finally decided to support Congress candidates in the ensuing Rajya Sabha polls to be held on March 31.

According to reports, the change in decision came after AIUDF chief Ajmal met All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi to settle the confusion.

Earlier, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia said that the party has started to collect applications for candidature for the Rajya Sabha. He said that the party may announce a candidate for the polls later in the day.

On the other hand, the Assam BJP camp is set to release the candidate's list by March 21.

As per reports, speculations are high that BJP spokesperson Pabitra Margherita is likely to get a ticket to the contest at the upcoming Rajya Sabha (RS) polls.

Meanhwhile sources close to the party mulled that a list comprising the names of candidates to contest in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls has been sent to New Delhi.

The list includes the names of three BJP members- Pulak Gohai, Subhash Dutta and Pabitra Margherita.

Rajya Sabha Elections will be held on March 31 in Assam to fill up two seats that will fall vacant after the term of MPs Ranee Narah and Ripun Borah ends on April 2, 2022.
