TANGLA: NEDA convenor and State Minister for Education, Finance Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday promised the people of Bodo belt of providing land rights and transparency in governance along with abolishment of Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) if the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is voted to power in the forthcoming BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) polls.

Sarma made the statement while addressing a mass gathering at Orangajuli TE for the BJP candidate of NonaiSerfang BTC constituency, Sanjit Tanti in Udalguri district.

Sarma lambasted the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) alleging misappropriation of funds despite the Centre and State releasing crores of rupees for developmental schemes.

He banked on the anti-incumbency wave against the BPF which have been in power for the past 17 years and opined that the people have been batting for change in the guards and the Bodo belt witness a new dawn where prosperity, development and equal rights' of every communities will prevail.

Sarma addressing a gathering of more than 4,000 people said, "the BJP reimposed faith on the BPF for three terms but there have been allegations of corruption and snapping of land rights of several communities where people have been refused permissions to sell and procure land."

Exuding confidence of the BJP forming government in the council he promised of making the administration a transparent one .

Mangaldoi Lok Sabha MP and general secretary of BJP, Dilip Saikia coming down heavily on Bodoland People's Front (BPF) asserted that the BPF have not introduced a single welfare scheme on its own except implementing the welfare schemes of the State and the Central governments. State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur , Tezpur MP PallabLochan Das, Mangaldoi MLA Gurujyoti Das also attended the event. It is to be noted that the BJP is contesting in 26 constituencies in the 40 member council.
