KOKRAJHAR: The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Monday welcomed the induction of Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary into the Parliamentary Committee for Social Justice and Simplification.
The president of the BJSM, Janaklal Basumatary, expressed hope that MP (RS) Daimary would ensure social justice for actual socially-backward communities by providing constitutional rights for their socio, economic, educational and political advancement. "It has to be guarded against the tendency to allow the relatively socially, educationally, intellectually, numerically and politically advanced communities to grab the constitutional benefits meant for the actual socially-backward communities for political benefit of the political parties," he said, adding that the proposed Bill for Scheduled Tribe status to six advanced communities of Assam against the socially backward and numerically minority existing Scheduled Tribe communities was a glaring example. He said this would be as good as perpetuation of inequality among un-equals and this had to be guarded by the political representatives in the forum of such committee for the sake of social justice.
Basumatary said that all the existing laws for the benefit of the socially backward Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities like fulfilment of job reservation, admission in educational institutions, land and political reservations and law of prevention of atrocities on SC/ST must be implemented in letter and spirit. He said the socially advanced and large six communities could not be allowed to grab the benefits of this law. He also said that the Parliamentary Committee for Social Justice must ensure the prevalence of social justice as envisaged in the Constitution of India.
