Recently, a rumour has been circulating in the Bongaigaon district of Assam that has been the reason for sleepless nights for many of the residents of the area. People believe that there is a certain 'Black Man' who is on a killing and looting spree. 

This rumour that has been circulating in the district has created mass hysteria and paranoia due to which the police had to intervene. The Bongaigaon Police have started an awareness drive in public places and villages announcing that there is no need to believe in the rumours. 

"For a few days, there have been rumours about a 'Black Man' spreading in the area, which has created a fearful situation. There's no reason to believe these rumours. If you come across any strangers throughout the night, there is no need to fight. Instead, surrender the suspect to police custody. . Falling prey to the rumours if anyone ought to take the law into their own hands, they will be punished as per law," announced the police in one such awareness drive. 

"These days there are rumours about 'Black man' looting and killing people. These are creating chaos and extreme fret among the common people. So, Bongaigaon police has started conducting frequent awareness drives about these rumours in villages and Public areas. We request everyone to not fall for these rumours. Stay safe and follow all the guidelines," tweeted the Bongaigaon Police. 

Recently, the villagers who were in the lookout for the dreaded 'Black Man' help a man and handed him over to the police as they suspected him of being the 'Black Man.' The villagers thought that the unidentified man was the dreaded 'Black Man' because he was in a black attire. The villagers notified the police that there were another four unidentified people with the man who they handed over to police.  The villagers suspected the man of being a Bangladeshi, though is identification has not been revealed till now. 

Swapnanil Dekai, the District Superintendent of Police (DSP), came in the area to investigate the issue. The district administration have been trying their level best to debunk the rumour and spread awareness to the people.
