Bodo leaders hail upgradation of Central Institute of Technology to deemed university

Kokrajhar: The Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar has been upgraded to deemed university and it will be effective soon. It was a clause in the Bodo Accord signed in 2003 and upgradation of CIT, Kokrajhar to deemed university was assured by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi during his visit to Kokrajhar in 2016. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has notified that CIT was upgraded to the deemed university on December 13, 2018.

Talking to reporters, Kampa Borgoyary, BTC deputy chief, said that two days back they had a meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and official secretary of MHRD in New Delhi where it was assured that CIT would be upgraded to deemed university soon.

“As part of implementing the clauses of BTC Accord, 2003, the Government of India is fulfilling our demands one by one,” Borgoyary said and added that this would indeed be a great achievement and more development activities would take place in CIT which would benefit the students.

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary said the upgradation of CIT to deemed university was part of the BTC Accord and he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing the clauses of the BTC Accord in letter and spirit. The president of the Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha, Janaklal Basumatary also welcomed the upgradation CIT to deemed university and said that it was a great achievement. Basumatary said the government, both at the Centre and the State, should protect the constitutional rights of the tribal people in Sixth Schedule areas. He said the political rights, land rights, job, education and other reservation quotas of the tribal people must be protected as per constitutional safeguard.
