Bodo-Meche introduced as subject language in Nepal

KOKRAJHAR: Following the introduction of Bodo-Meche as a language subject in Class-I at the Dipendra Prathamik Vidyalaya, Ainabari in Nepal, former Lok Sabha MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary has lauded the efforts of Haldibari Nagar Palika and all the Bodo-Meche people of the entire Nepal Republic in this regard.

He also said that a lot of labor has gone into the compilation of the first primer book prepared and compiled by Santalal Meche, the author of the ‘Bodo-Meche-Nepali Dictionary’ and the ‘History and Culture of the Meche People of the Terrai Region’.

Bwiswmuthairy said, “I also had a chance to scrutinize the first Bodo Meche primer book at the request of Santolal Meche and after having finished it, I sent the manuscript to Meche for final work on the noble venture. In this regard, we ought to be thankful to Japanese Prof. Kajuyiki Kiruyi of Mima Saka University, Japan for his valuable help, cooperation, and guidance in undertaking the project of compiling the Bodo-Meche-Nepali dictionary.”

He said that he, along with the Japanese scholar, had visited the school concerned on February 11 and interacted with the teachers, chairman of MAC, vice-chairman of Haldibari Nagar Palika, students and also some guardians. He added that they were thankful to the authority of Haldibari Nagar Palika for extending support for the growth of the Bodo-Meche language in Nepal.

Bodo-Meche language was introduced as the subject language in a primary school in Dhulabari, Nepal since April 2019. The Government of Nepal assured to introduce the Bodo language as the language subject in a primary school of Jhappa district of Nepal where Bodo speaking people have the sizeable number.
