TANGLA: Dwimuthi Basumatari, a Dokhona-clad Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) party worker and VCDC (Village Council Development Committee) chairperson of Udalguri was among the thousands of party workers to heed to the call of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president Hagrama Mohilary’s call to hoist the party flag in their homes to show unity and boost fellow workers’ morale during the Governor’s Rule in the council.

Basumatari in her mid-30s, had hung the party flag with the symbol of plough in the verandah of her residence near Tangla town in the district. She said, “We are not only confident but determined that the Mohilary-led BPF will form the next government for the fourth consecutive term as there has been lot of development in terms of road infrastructure, new hospitals, colleges and most importantly, peace and prosperity has returned to the trouble-torn region under the Mohilary regime.”

Another party worker, Dulumani Deka of the locality also joined the call and hung a party flag at the entrance of her residence in Udalguri. Deka said, “We have hung the flag in a show of solidarity with the party workers and leaders as we are united despite the expiry of the tenure of the BPF administration and sincerely believe that the Governor’s Rule has not deterred the morale and spirit of the party workers and we are determined that BPF will sweep the polls with thumping majority.”

BPF president Mohilary had on Tuesday appealed to party workers to hoist a party flag in their residence and not to get demotivated. He also urged all the sections of the society to maintain peace in the region post-imposition of Governor’s Rule, a maiden experience for the council ever since its inception in 2003.

Meanwhile, Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania, who heads the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) and claims to represent the non-Bodo populace, has welcomed the Governor’s Rule in the council and called upon all sections of society to join hands and ensure social integration in the Bodo belt. Sarania also exuded confidence that his party backed candidates would form the government in the next council.

Pertinently, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), an autonomous council under the 6th Schedule, was created on February 10, 2003 after the second Bodo Accord was signed through tripartite talks between the State, Centre and the Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT). The 46-member council has six nominated members who are appointed by the Governor from non-represented communities.
