Kokrajhar: Bodoland Students’ Union (BSU), Kokrajhar district committee on Monday urged the district administration, Kokrajhar, to stop giving permission for holding unseasonal melas in and around Kokrajhar for the greater interest of students and the young generation. The union also urged the district administration to deal with anti-social activities which were on the rise in Kokrajhar.

In their memorandum to the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner, the president of the BSU, Derhasat Brahma said that Kokrajhar had become an important centre for higher education where students from various places came to pursue higher education. The holding of unseasonal melas in different corners of Kokrajhar had become a matter of grave concern as gambling and all kinds of illegal activities go on in these melas which had a bad impact on students and the young generation. He added that illicit liquor was available in most of the mela venues.
