Bodoland University (BU) celebrates 12B status at Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland University (BU) celebrated the recognition of 12B status to it by the University Grant Commission (UGC) at a ceremonial programme held at the University campus in Kokrajhar on Thursday.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary and Dr. Kiran Hazarika, Commission member of UGC attended the celebration. A colourful cultural function was also held as part of the programme where students from different colleges and institutes were present.

In his speech, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary said the granting of 12B status to Bodoland University is a long-cherished dream of the people of the BTAD and the entire lower Assam coming true. Stating that Bodoland University is the only university in the BTC and the entire Lower Assam districts, Mohilary expressed his confidence that the University will pave the way for development of human resources, apart from other development and intellectual activities.

Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh, Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, Dr. Prahalad Basumatary, Registrar of BU and others were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Kiran Hazarika, Commission Member of UGC who attended the programme as the chief guest from the UGC, said that Bodoland University is eligible to get 12B status and now this university has to apply for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to get various types of funds of the Central Government for the development of infrastructures of the university.
