Body of 4-year-old abducted child recovered from urinal in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: In a shocking incident, the body of a 4-year-old child was found in an abandoned urinal in the PWD colony near the old high school field in Dibrugarh on Friday morning. According to police, a man saw the body covered with a cloth while going for urination. A child was abducted from Malipatty in the town on January 30.

Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra said, "The body of a four-year-old boy was found from an abandoned place near the old high school field area on Friday morning when a man spotted the body covered with a cloth. Yesterday we arrested the person who had abducted the child. The accused has been identified as Suraj Karmakar."

"We arrested the accused after getting CCTV footage. The accused was an alcoholic. We suspect that he murdered the child and dumped his body in the abandoned place. We have started investigation to know the modus operandi of the crime," he added.

The 4-year-old child was the son of Ranjit Bailung of Malipatty area, Dibrugarh. On the other hand, a section of conscious people of Dibrugarh raised questions on the police. "The police should have taken the case seriously. They should have immediately found out who abducted the child and nabbed him. They took the case lightly and a life was lost as a result," alleged a resident of Dibrugarh.
