Body Of Coal Mine Labourer Finally Brought Home

Bongaigaon: After 45 days of tension, the body of a labourer working in a coal mine of Meghalaya was brought home on Sunday. Amir Hussein (25), son of Abdus Salam, a resident of Damugaon area under Panbari Police Station of Chirang district, who was working in a coal mine of Braripar Khilarihat in the Sun area under Chaipung Police Station of East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, got trapped in the mine along with 16 other labourers on December 23. After more than a month, Amir’s body was recovered. After identification, his body was sent home on Sunday.

Two other labourers from Chirang district - Monirul Islam (18) , son of Solibor Rahman , a resident of No 1 Bogigaon under Panbari PS, and Md Saher Islam (33), son of Abdul Miya, a resident of Bhangnagaon under Panbari Police Station, are still trapped inside the coal mine. No information about them has been available yet. The All Minority Students’ Union and All BTAD Minority Students’ Union have demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each victim family. They have also demanded that the education expenses of the children of the victims should be borne by the government.
