 Dhubri DC promulgates 144 CrPC, issues strict rules for sailing boats

DHUBRI: The body of Dhubri Circle Officer, Sanju Das was recovered by NDRF jawans on Sunday morning, nearly 700 metres down the Brahmaputra from the place of tragic boat mishap that took place on September 29.

Dhubri Circle Officer Sanju Das was the only man who went missing when the boat with over 30 passengers capsized near Bhasanichar village under Dhubri Police Station of Dhubri district. However, all passengers were rescued or swam to the bank of the narrow channel of river Brahmaputra where L&T construction company is constructing the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge. But Sanju Das remained traceless for the last three days. Family members of Das identified the body and after post mortem, they took the body to his home in Karimganj on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Anbamuthan MP issued strict rules and regulations in respect of sailing passenger and goods carrying boats in the River Brahmaputra and its all tributaries in the Dhubri and South Salmara districts.

By promulgating 144 CrPC, Deputy Commissioner issued order wherein it states that no boat can sail in the river after the sun set or foggy weather condition, only four persons is allowed on cargo or goods carrying boats for ferrying, while all passengers carrying boats must have life-jacket, fire the extinguishers, first-aid box etc and follow rules and regulations codified by Inland Water Transport (IWT) issued from time to time. In respect of carrying capacity of passengers and weight of goods should also be followed, the order states. The order also states that regular fitness test manditory for boats, which has to be done as rules and guidelines issued by IWT, and under no circumstance, taking selfy while on boat is strictly prohibited.
