Barpeta: A pall of gloom descended as the body of Barpeta girl  reached her home town in Howly.

The victim was allegedly raped and murdered in Bangalore on Wednesday (December 16). Her body reached her home at Nagarjhar gaon, Howly in Barpeta district of Assam.

The body has been brought from Bangalore to Guwahati by air this morning and later taken to her home by ambulance from the airport.

The teenage girl has been allegedly gang-raped and killed in Bangalore just a day after her admission to the East-West College Bangalore.

After her enrolment at the college, she was dropped by her family members at the institute on December 14 and returned back. Later on December 16, she was found dead in a mysterious circumstance and taken to Anupama Hospital in Yelahanka, Bangalore by the locals.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggested that the victim was first raped and then murdered.

The Bangalore police have already arrested the accused Anisur Rahman and two others involved in the case on Wednesday (December 16).

The accused Anisur Rahman is a resident of Goalpara district. He is also a friend of the victim's brother.

While the victim's family asked the police to speed up their investigation in the matter, a resident from the victim's native place said, "The accused is a friend of her brother. He was helping her with the admission, too. On Wednesday, the victim went to the accuser's residence, and later she was found in a pool of blood by locals of the area. If she was raped and then murdered, we want all the accused to be punished rigorously and want capital punishment for all of them.

Locals of the victim's native place and her relatives demanded the Assam government to investigate the matter and to take action in this regard and demanded capital punishment for the accused. They have also asked the Assam government to ensure the prevention of such incidents.

The victim  was a student of first-year BSC nursing at East-West College Bangalore. Just three days ago she went to Bangalore to study B.Sc Nursing course.
