Bokajan police arrested couple for assaulting on-duty police officer

BOKAJAN: A gaon burha and his wife were arrested by Bokajan police on the charge of physically assaulting an on-duty police officer here on Sunday. "The incident occurred in front of Bokajan Police Station where the officer was confronted by gaon burha, Amit Mech alias Madan and the duo engaged in a verbal altercation over releasing fine from a motorist for not wearing helmet and riding without a valid licence. The dispute later turned violent and Madan started to physically charge the officer along with his wife Riya Mech," said OC Dimbeshwar Thakuria.

Madan assumed charge of Sarkari gaon burha after the death of his father Amulya Mech. There are allegations against Madan of misusing his post for personal gains. Police have also recovered three sacks of rice, along with a list of 28 beneficiaries from the residence of Amit. A case under section 333/353 IPC has been registered against the duo who will be produced in the court on Monday.
