BONGAIGAON: Following in line with the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) of the Assam Government to set schools to partially reopen for Classes IX to XII from September 21 as per Unlock 4.0 guidelines, these particular classes have started in the schools of Bongaigaon district too. In this connection, to ensure a healthy and safety learning experience for the students and to contain spread of COVID-19 among both students and teaching staff attending schools, Bongaigaon district administration has come up with an innovative idea of 'Bell for Cleanliness' or 'Swachatar Ghanta', which is a brainchild of Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon.

According to this, regularly a bell will be rung every hour to indicate students and staff to perform some special activities with specific purposes set by the district administration without interfering with the regular classes. The range of these activities includes washing hands, checking and ensuring proper wearing of facial masks and maintenance of social distancing. Further, ensuring drinking water to maintain health in general and to avoid conditions like urinary tract infection and to make sure the use of toilets which plays a vital role in maintaining hygiene, especially menstrual hygiene. All these activities have to be followed by the students and staff during their time at school every day whenever the bell rings. These activities have been laid forward with a broader view of combating the pandemic situation and at the same time to build a lasting hygiene mechanism required for a healthy teaching environment.
