Bongaigaon district administration launches pilot project 'Mission Sampoorna'

BONGAIGAON: As a part of the ongoing celebration of Third National Poshan Maah or Nutrition Month 2020 across the country as well as in the district, Mission Sampoorna-a pilot project -was launched on Saturday by Bongaigaon district administration with the prime objective to identify acute malnutrition among the children of the district and to take necessary steps to set them free from the problem.

Attending the formal inaugural ceremony of Mission Sampoorna held on Saturday at Barkha Gaon ME School under Mulagaon GP, State Food and Civil Supply Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury and Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon, Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya distributed 11 poultry each to the mothers of five children identified with moderately acute malnutrition for farming in order to cater to availability of nutritious food resources. It is expected that the mothers will be able to provide required amount of nutrition to their children by the produced eggs and at the same time they will also be able to arrange other nutritious supplements like milk by the earnings made from the extra production of eggs. The Deputy Commissioner spoke about the aims and objectives of Mission Sampoorna in details.

In synchronization with the ongoing Poshan Maah, a food fair-cum-exhibition was also organized on Saturday at the event focusing on food items with high nutritious value especially beneficial for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers like green vegetables, fruits, milk and egg. Through the food fair, an attempt has been made to create awareness among the children, pregnant women and lactating mothers about how to meet the required amount of nutrition by adding the home produced food items in the regular diet. Besides, in order to ensure proper and adequate nutrition among children through setting up nutri-gardens at all schools and Anganwadi Kendras, a plantation drive was also held.

The programme was attended by ADC Pankaj Chamuah, Assistant Commissioner Shivansh Avasthi, all officials of the District Social Welfare department, Anganwadi workers and all persons related to Poshan Abhiyan.
