Bongaigaon district on high alert for COVID-19 & Japanese Encephalitis cases

BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon district is on high alert nowadays due to detection of many COVID-19 and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases.

Chumpi Chutiya, DIPRO, Bongaigaon said that at present, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district was 320, out of which 121 were active cases while 191 people had been discharged.

"Till now 8,910 swab tests have been done under ATSP, including recognized and not recognized in the district. Rapid Antigen Test has been conducted for a total of 974 people in the district. COVID-19 Positivity Rate of Bongaigaon is 1.4 per cent in general. But particularly for the month of July, it is 2.3 per cent. The COVID-19 positivity rate of Assam till July 21 is 9.2 per cent. The positivity rate of India is 8.12 per cent. The positivity rate of Bongaigaon in antigen test is 1.85 per cent," she said.

"On the other hand, total nine JE cases have been detected out of 14 cases registered under Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and two JE deaths have been recorded so far this year in the district," she added.
