BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon Lawyers' Association staged protest on Thursday in front of Bongaigaon Court responding to the call of the North East Bar Council and Assam Lawyers' Association to demand resumption of physical court, regular court functioning and re-opening of advocates bar libraries.

Hareswar Das from Bongaigaon Lawyers' Association said that due to the lockdown, the whole country was facing a massive economic crisis. "Banks and government offices are now functioning normally. If functioning of other offices can be allowed, then why has regular function of court not been allowed yet? This means this is a conspiracy to keep the public away from the legal system so that they cannot seek justice against anything illegal. This is an unparliamentary decision. We demand that functioning of court should be regularized immediately," he said.

Several senior lawyers of Bongaigaon, including Dhiren Nath and Jayashree Barua participated in this protest. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India through the Sessions Judge of Bongaigaon.
