BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon police arrested five persons for allegedly spreading rumours and panic through social media. Swapnaneel Deka, Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police, said that since last few days a rumour of a black man had spread throughout district. "We have already taken precautions regarding these rumours and conducted publicity in all areas of the district that the black man was only a rumour.

But we came to know that few persons were spreading such rumours through social media. Following information and evidence of such social media posts, we arrested five persons on Monday night. They are Nikunja Ray (29), son of Hemen Chandra Ray, resident of Chakrasila Part 2 under Manikpur PS, Hiteswar Arya (24) , son of Ananda Arya, resident of Darkinamari, Biswanath Arya (25), son of Gaur Arya, resident of Darkinamari, Kishor Ray (28), son of Dimbeswar Ray, resident of Briddhabash under Manikpur PS, and one minor boy. All are arrested and investigation is on," the SP said.
