Bongaigaon Refinery concludes 'Swachhta Pakhwada'

DHUBRI: Swachhta Pakhwada with the theme "Be Clean Go Green" concluded at Bongaigaon Refinery recently with a webinar on "Microplastics: Are they the bane of human existence?

The programme was attended by General Manager In-Charge (HR), George Ishorary , General Manager (HR), Chandrima Sarmah, and DGM(CC&CSR), Sita Baruah, besides residents, children and youths of the township attended the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Ishorary spoke at a length and shared his rich experience in CSR and also advised the participant that cleanliness is of utmost important for physical well-being and a healthy environment.

As members of a responsible corporate entity, Ishorary stressed that it is a national duty to abide by the clarion call for a Clean India Mission from the Prime Minister.

"Reducing our carbon footprint and striving for a greener environment should be our motto in our path towards a Cleaner & Greener India", Ishorary opined and appealed to follow it.

Ishorary also appreciated the spirit of BGRians displayed by their participation in the various Swachhta Pakhwada activities while following Covid protocols.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, General Manager (HR), Ms. Chandrima Sarmah, mentioned that Bongaigaon Refinery has always been at the forefront championing the mission of Swachhta Pakhwada and shared some of the major initiative on Swachhta mission by BGR such as cleaning of water bodies, plantation of more than 60000 saplings in the nearby areas and keeping up with the mission of eradication of open defecation by constructing 201 nos of toilet block in 161 schools of both the district of Bongaigaon and Chirang.

Quoting "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" mantra of Mahatma Gandhi, Sarmah encouraged all the participants to imbibe the spirit of the 'Swachhta' pledge and also to keep up positive attitude with a healthy body and mind to overcome the pandemic . Guest speaker from IIT Guwahati, Sumantra Chaudhuri gave a very lucid presentation on the topic of micro-plastics and how they are increasingly becoming a menace for life on our planet.

He also gave a few practical and easily implementable solutions on how to reduce the release of micro-plastics into the environment while fielding questions on the topic. During the programme, a special issue of e-magazine 'Swachhta Cleanings' was released by Ishorary in presence of all dignitaries.

A detailed presentation on 'Swachhta' activities carried out during the Swachhta fortnight was presented by SO (Hindi & CC),

Sarita Goswami Bharati. During the 'Swachhta' fortnight, various innovative programmes such as online fancy-dress competition for students, waste-management competition for all stakeholders, virtual acting competition for ladies of Refinery Township was organized with active participation from all employees and stakeholder.

A mass-sanitization drive was carried out at Dhaligaon market along with distribution of 4,000 facemasks and sanitizers to all stakeholder during this 'Swachhta Fortnight'.
