GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the border clash of the state with neighbouring northeastern states Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will be resolved towards the ending of this year.

The chief minister shared the information while addressing the reporters on the sidelines of the Assam SPs conference second day that was organized at Duliajan town of Dibrugarh district on 4 January.

CM Sarma mentioned that it can be expected that the interstate border-related disputes with Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will get over by the end of the current year 2022. He regarded the border disputes of the northeastern states as a problematic issue though he assured it may come to an end by the ending of this year.

However, the CM further stated that to resolve the border problems with neighbouring states the state government will need some time as the boundary issues of northeastern states mainly between Mizoram and Nagaland is a much-complicated matter.

Notably, the government of Assam and Meghalaya are involved in an exercise of joint interception of disputed border regions to resolve the 12 inter-state border clashes.

According to reports two regional committees have been established by the government of both the states of Assam and Meghalaya and these committees are meant to submit their reports to the Chief Ministers of their respective states by the beginning of the year 2022.

A detailed meeting was held recently over the issue of vexed order dispute which was attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma along with Assam Minister P Hazarika and Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Pestone Tynsong. Sangma later stated that the discussion throughout the meeting was a positive one and reports by both regional committees were submitted.
