Border Roads Organization Motorcycle Expedition receives rousing welcome at Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Border Roads Organization (BRO) Motorcycle Expedition, celebrating the 75th year of India's Independence as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, was flagged off by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 14 in New Delhi.

The expedition, after completing three legs, travelled a distance of 6000 km through northern and north-eastern regions of the country and reached HQ Chief Engineer, Project Udayak at Sookerating, Doomdooma. The leg 3 comprising 10 motorcycles and other administrative vehicles and support staff reached Doomdooma recently to a rousing and well-attended reception.

On the following day, the Chief Engineer, Project Udayak, Vimal Goswami, VSM addressed and motivated the team in the morning. It was followed by community outreach programmes in and around Doomdooma wherein the team visited the Keshav Bahety Surjudaya Children Home, an orphanage for boys, situated at Gangabari near Barhapjan. There, the team conducted motivational talks on role of Border Roads Organization (BRO) and its contribution to national integrity and nation building.

It was followed by talks on pertinent topics, including road safety awareness and Swachh Bharat Abhyan. The programme concluded with a quiz competition and distribution of sweets and gifts.

The event was followed by a public awareness campaign at Gandhi Chowk at the heart of Doomdooma town. The public was engaged in an interactive session on road safety awareness. It included a questionnaire on the knowledge, attitude and practices on road safety and touched important yet often ignored topics such as over speeding, use of helmet and seatbelt and following traffic signals and other road safety regulations.

The final event for the day was a motivational session conducted at Keshav Bahety Surjudaya Girls Orphanage, which touched on topics of hand and personal hygiene. The students were further engaged in a quiz competition, followed by distribution of sweets and presents. The team was flagged off for leg - 4 to Jorhat and will further proceed Kolkata for culmination of leg- 4.
