SILCHAR: Mizoram and Cachar Frontier with its headquarters at Masimpur, Silchar, is a unique Frontier of the Force. It guards borders of south Assam in Barak valley and whole of Mizoram with Bangladesh totaling an area of 469 kms in length. Apart from this, the Frontier has also deployed its units in Manipur and Nagaland on counter-insurgency operations. The units of the Frontier are also guarding important vital Institutions like Capital Complex and High Court premises of Manipur.

Sunil Kumar, IG of the Frontier, BSF, has very effectively sealed the borders. Cattle smuggling has almost become zero. In 2019, 148 number of cattle were seized whereas in 2020 it has come down to 114. All the gaps have been effectively sealed. The Frontier has also contributed immensely in reducing drug smuggling in the Barak Valley.

In the last one year, the BSF troops have been able to seize 119 cattle, apprehended 31 Indian miscreants and 4 Bangladesh miscreants. BSF troops have been able to seize 52,479Yaba tablets worth Rs. 2,62,39,500 till November 30. Similarly, 1.5 gms heroin, 87.49 gm brown sugar, 172 Kg cannabis, 1859 foreign liquor bottles and many other contraband goods have been seized. During the last two months, Intelligence team of the Frontier has conducted successful operations which resulted in the recovery of 30 sophisticated weapons comprising 29 AK-series rifles and 1 US carbine along with 28 magazines and huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

The Force is not only aiming for zero smuggling activities on the borders; but also carrying out a number of civic action activities like medical camps, drug abuse awareness camps, pre-recruitment training to youths of border villages, cleanliness drives, village adaptation, patient evacuations, evacuation of villagers during flood in Cachar and Mizoram border areas among others. During COVID-19, BSF commanders extended helping hand to the needy and poor border population through various civic action like distribution of ration, medicines, face masks, sanitizers, potable water etc. The BSF troops also educated the border population through awareness programme on how to fight against coronavirus and to keep themselves physically fit by imbibing fitness programme such as yoga and physical exercises.

On this occasion, grand feast was organized at Masimpur in which Ftr IG graced his presence along with other officers as well as 134 Bn BSF. Ftr IG in his address exhorted the Force of pide to continue the good work, boosted the morale of troops and motivated them to perform their duty with all zeal and enthusiasm. The Border Security Force has been able to win heart and minds of border populations. The Force is aiding the civil police and other sister agencies to make Barak Valley drug smuggling free. On the occasion of 56th Raising Day of the mighty Force, its troops vow to safeguard the territorial integrity of motherland with its motto of "JeewanParyantKartavya" (Dedicated life till end), stated a press release..
