BPCL unit of NRL conducts coronavirus awareness camp in Numaligarh

Numaligarh: The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) unit at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) conducted an awareness camp on the deadly coronavirus in the Numaligarh Refinery Marketing Terminal (NRMT) on Tuesday.

The staff engaged in oil carrier vehicles or oil tanker operators have been asked to be on alert as the disease has been reported in 10 other countries. NRL is closely connected with China and other South-east Asian countries with import-export of petroleum products and other related products as well.

The awareness programme was chaired by BPCL NRL unit Senior Manager Goutam Saha and was moderated by BPCL NRL unit Assistant Manager Biswajit Sarma. Many other employees engaged in the oil and other petroleum product transportation fields, along with drivers and handymen of oil tankers were also present and participated in the awareness programme.

Senior Medical Officer of Vivekananda Kendra-NRL Hospital, Dr. Panchanan Khakhlary explained about coronavirus. He elaborated on how the virus spreads and about preventive measures. Dr. Khakhlary also pointed out that everyone should be extra cautious during the import of pieces of machinery and other tools from China and other countries marked red with the danger of the deadly virus by the World Health Organization. He explained in detail about all the potential ways the virus could spread and how one can stay safe from infection.

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. One should avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
