ORANG: With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections drawing near, political momentum is visibly intensifying across BTR. On Thursday, the Gorkha National Cell of the BPF (Bodoland People’s Front), Bhergaon Block, organized a significant workers’ meeting at Khaorang, reaffirming the party’s growing grassroots presence and electoral readiness.
Presided over by Karna Chetry, president of the Gorkha National Cell, Udalguri District Committee, the meeting was initiated by Bhergaon Block president Balasing Tamang. The general secretary Dipak Dongal introduced the core agenda, underscoring the importance of mass mobilization and organizational unity ahead of the 2025 BTC elections.
Speaking as the chief guest, Nandalal Rana Magar, president of the BPF Gorkha National Cell, Central Committee, exuded confidence in the party’s comeback, asserting that the BPF will secure more than 25 seats and reclaim governance in the BTC. Former BTC Minister and senior party leader Rihon Daimary, who is likely to contest from the Bhergaon Council constituency, also addressed the gathering and projected as the next Deputy Chief of BTC if the BPF forms the government.
In a powerful message to the attendees, Daimary reiterated the BPF’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of all ethnic communities in BTR. “Our government’s first priority will be to grant land pattas to all indigenous communities who have resided in BTC since before February 10, 2003,” he said. He further assured that under BPF leadership, the term “eviction” will be removed from the administrative vocabulary of BTR.
The workers’ meet witnessed enthusiastic participation from various cells of the party including the Santali Cell, Hindi-speaking Cell, and Women’s Wing. Among the dignitaries present were Tridip Daimary, former BTC Speaker and former-councillor of Harisinga, Soneswar Wary, president of Bhergaon Block Committee, Sanju Katuwal, general secretary of the District Committee, and several central and block-level office bearers.
The event, which drew nearly 300 participants, began at 3 pm and concluded by 6 pm, reflecting a strong collective resolve among party cadres to gear up for the forthcoming political battle.
