KOKRAJHAR: United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) on Wednesday observed its 5th foundation day at Kokrajhar. The vice-president of the party, Rwngwra Narzary, who was also former MCLA of BTC, hoisted the party flag while homage to martyrs and floral tributes were paid by senior party leaders Moinul Hoque and Pratibha Brahma followed by meeting with Narzary in the chair.

Talking to mediapersons, the vice-president of the UPPL, Rwngwra Narzary said the people of the region wanted a new change and good governance in the council. With a view of establishing a corruption-free government, people, irrespective of caste and creed, had come forward and joined the UPPL, he said, adding that their party would win 30-35 seats and form the next council government while the ruling BPF, which had been in power for 17 years, would win single digit number of seats this time. He also said the UPPL had become an emerging regional political party that raised voice against corruption, nepotism and favouritism.

When asked about the main battle in the ensuing BTC election, Narzary said three national parties-BJP, Congress and AIUDF -had fielded their own candidates and as regional parties, the BPF and UPPL would be fighting for 40 constituencies. He said the BPF was losing ground everywhere due to their lack of good governance.

Narzary said the UPPL was formed on August 5, 2015 at Thulungapuri in Dotma to ensure good governance in BTC. He said most of the people of BTC region were not satisfied with the BPF-led council administration for the massive corruption. He said they would prioritize equal and sustainable development to all, besides providing corruption-free governance.

On the incident of attack in Indo-Bhutan border area in Chirang district on Tuesday, Narzary said the attack on two BPF supporters was a complete 'drama' and both the attackers and the injured persons belonged to same party. He said the UPPL supporters never attacked others.

Meanwhile, the president of the UPPL, Promod Boro, who returned from New Delhi recently and was suggested for home quarantine for some days after testing negative, posted his live speech on his official Facebook page. He said the UPPL would work for the sustainable development to all by ensuring corruption-free governance. He said some BPF workers had been misleading the people by propagating false agenda. He said that in a democratic country everybody could exercise their rights but they should stop false propaganda and misleading agenda.

Boro said the implementation of all clauses of the BTR accord in letter and spirit should be the main focus along with sustainable development as well as withdrawal of cases pending against the leaders and cadres of NDFB.

On the alleged internal electoral understanding between the UPPL and GSP of MP Naba Kr. Sarania, UPPL president Promod Boro said his party had no such understanding with any party. In fact, it was the BPF which had a secret understanding with the Naba Kr. Sarania-led GSP. He said the withdrawal of GSP candidate from Debargaon and other constituencies had proved their internal understanding. He also said the UPPL would fight alone and it had no ties with the BJP as well.
