Kokrajhar: Kicking off the election campaign for the 4th Bodoland general election, the president of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Hagrama Mohilary, who is also the chief of BTC, announced the name of Moon Moon Brahma as the official candidate of BPF from No. 1 Parbatjhora constituency at public rallies held at Modati and Kalila on Saturday.

Addressing the public gathering, Mohilary said the BPF would win from at least 30 seats in the total 40 BTC constituencies where the election was likely to be held within mid-April. He said that local candidates would be given preference in order to look into the problems in their respective constituencies and Moon Moon Brahma, being an efficient local candidate, would be the right person to address the local problems, besides bringing effective development. He also said the selection of Moon Moon Brahma would also be part of women's empowerment.

Mohilary said the BTR accord was signed on January 27 between the Government of India, Government of Assam and ABSU, four factions of NDFB and UBPO. He said the accord was signed only as per the draft of demands prepared by the ABSU and NDFB (P) while intellectuals and BPF were also kept in the dark. He said the accord could have been more effective if the student body had discussed the draft of charter of demands with the intellectuals. He, however, said they would govern the BTR with the help of signatory leaders and support of masses from all communities.

The meeting was also addressed by BSU leader Prahalad Brahma and attended by local dignitary Sahen Brahma and BPF candidate Moon Moon Brahma.
