Guwahati:

Two more Covid-19 patients in Assam have been discharged after treatment on Saturday, May 23, taking the total number of discharged cases in the state to 57.

Tweeting about this development, Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "Something to cheer about amid string of bad news! Dr Deepa Deka of Regional Dental College, Guwahati, infected with Coronavirus in line of duty, has been discharged from GMCH after testing negative twice. Another woman patient also relieved, taking the total discharged no to 57."

In another significant development, the Kalapahar Hospital in Guwahati, Assam, beginning Saturday onwards, has become fully-operational as a Covid-19 facility. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who reached the facility earlier today to take stock of the preparedness along with Minister of State Pijush Hazarika, said that the Hospital will work under the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and will be available from 6 pm in the evening on Saturday, May 23. Sarma also informed that 30 nurses, 25 grade-4 staffs and 9 cleaners have already joined duties.'

It is pertinent that Assam has so far reported 329 cases of the Covid-19, and the cases have more than doubled in the last 5 days. Till date, 4 persons have died in Assam due to the respiratory illness.
