Breaking: Area in Guwahati's Betkuchi marked as 'Containment Zone'

Guwahati: Yet another area in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, this time in Betkuchi in Guwahati, has been tagged as a containment zone by the district administration to prevent an outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

After the detection of Covid-19 positive patients in Betkuchi, an area in the locality has been marked as a containment zone. In this new containment zone, the ICOL in the Betkuchi campus to the north, the residence of Suchil Tamuly to the south, the residence of Breej Mohan Das to the east, and Maniram Deman Trade Centre to the west, have been marked as the extremities.

Henceforth, the movement and activities in this area will be restricted and any violation of this order will attract action under the provisions of 'The Assam Covid-19 Regulations, 2020', 'The Disaster Management Act 2005', 'The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897' and other relevant laws, officials said.

Earlier in the day, after the detection of cases at the Pandu Railway New Colony in Guwahati, Assam, an area in the vicinity was marked as 'containment zone' and sealed by the district administration. Railway Colony to the north, New Colony road to the south, the Jai Hind Club Chariali to the east, and the railway colony road to the west have been marked as the extremities of the containment zone by the authorities. Any violation of this order will attract action under the provisions of 'The Assam Covid-19 Regulations, 2020', 'The Disaster Management Act 2005', 'The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897' and other relevant laws, officials said.

In a positive development, Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has informed that 38 more Covid-19 patients have been discharged on Saturday after testing negative for the virus twice, taking the number of active patients down to 930.

Of the 1,100 cases that have been detected in the state, a lion's share have been detected among quarantined people who have returned from areas where the outbreak has already affected the population on a greater scale.
