‘Broiler Chicken Meat Safe For Human Consumption’ Says Prabin Neog

JORHAT: “Broiler chicken meat is white meat. It is safe for the human body. It does not affect human body function, nor increases cholesterol or fat. But too much of anything is bad,” said Dr Prabin Neog, prominent veterinarian from the All Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services during the World Veterinary Day lecture held at the State Veterinary campus, Lichubari in Jorhat on Saturday.

Dr Neog said a lot of fake news and rumours about broiler flesh consumption were being spread by a lobby. But broiler chicken mean is healthy as the broiler chickens are strictly monitored and vaccinated by experienced veterinarians, he said.

Dr Chandra Prabha Sinha, retired Joint Director of the department, spoke about the importance of vaccination process of mother and baby dogs during their lactation and pregnancy period.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were Dr Harendra Nath Saikia, Tarun Prasad Barua, Dr Nripen Khound and the president and secretary of all Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Dr Sarwar Sader and Dr Sobubh Singh respectively, whereas altogether 40 veterinarians and field assistants from the department assembled from three districts.

Dr Sawar Sader said, “Vaccination is an essential tool for preventive veterinary medicine, according to the World Veterinary Association. The theme of World Veterinary Day 2019, set for April 27, is ‘Value of Vaccination’.”

Moreover, Dr Subudh Singh said that the WVA and Health for Animals would confer the World Veterinary Day Award for best contribution on the annual theme by a WVA member association working alone or with other groups. “The WVA partnered with Health for Animals to improve the visibility of the award and increase the prize to $2,500,” Dr Singh further added.
