Bronze statue of intellectual figure Homen Borgohain to be set up in Dhakuakhana

LAKHIMPUR: Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu, Minister of Education, Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes (non-BTC), on behalf of Assam State Government, handed over the ashes of the mortal remains of intellectual figure Homen Borgohain to the dignitaries of Homen Borgohain Trust (Nyas) on Sunday in Dhakuakhana.

Notably, Homen Borgohain was born at Baligaon under Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district on December 7 in 1932. Borgohain, who extended tremendous contribution to the intellectual, journal and literary areas of the State, is honoured as the pride of Dhakuakhana as well as Lakhimpur district.

The Homen Borgohain Trust will immerse the ashes of Borgohain in the holy water of River Charikoriya, the lifeline of Dhakuakhana, and the mighty Brahmaputra next Saturday on the adya shraddha of the recently demised literary figure. Arriving at the office of the Homen Borgohain Trust, the minister paid deep tribute to Homen Borgohain.

Then the minister held detailed discussion with the Trust dignitaries and a galaxy of prominent persons of Dhakuakhana over the action plan to be implemented in the Trust office premises. During the discussion, the minister gave word to construct the boundary wall and the main gate of the office. He declared that a bronze statue of Homen Borgohain would be set up at the Trust office premises. He added that the fund required for the construction of the statue would be fixed during the upcoming budgetary session. On the other hand, Homen Borgohain Trust submitted a memorandum to the minister quoting all the projects, decided to be executed by the Trust.

In the same programme, Press Guild, Dhakuakhana president Alok Chamua, working president Rajesh Kumar Borgohain and secretary Rajib Baruah felicitated the new Education Minister of the State Government with phulam gamosa and a citation.
